Steve and Sheila's Nerja Day Tours - Alhama de Granada a short day
Alhama de Granada,"hung" from her striking gorges, was born in pre-historic times largely as a result of her attractive thermal waters and her strategic position at the crossroad of the main routes that crossed Andalucia. The monuments of the Arabic era and the noble religious buildings constructed in the Christian period make this a very special and interesting historic town.
The journey from Nerja to Alhama takes about an hour, to an hour and a half driving through the Sierra Tejada and into the Sierra Nevada which has ten peaks above 10,000 ft. We usually recommend guests walk down to the gorge, admire the views and see the ancient stone sinks where the washer-women of Alhama washed their clothes until the early 1980's. Then after an exploratory walk around the town and lunch in a local bar or restaurant on your own, we pick up the guests and take them a five minute drive to an ancient Roman, later Arabic baths. The soothing thermal waters are still being offered and enjoyed at a very modern luxury hotel.
We break the journey back to Nerja with a stop and brief walk if required at beautiful lake Vinuela.
The journey takes about 1.0 - 1.5 hours from Nerja to Alhama. We offer a full door to door service at times you choose. The cost is 150€ per trip(not per person), with a maximum of 4 people.
