Our Nerja day trip to El Acebuchal gives our guests a fascinating glimpse of old "hidden" Spain. On this tour as usual, we collect guests from their accommodation at a time chosen by them and drive them the short distance, (about 15 minutes) into the National Park to the "lost village" of El Acebuchal. In 1948, the Franco authorities obliged all 150 residents to abandon the village as a means of preventing anti-Franco guerillas from seeking refuge there. But now some of their descendants have moved back. Since 1998 the village has been restored and is really beautiful.
After guests have strolled around the village and maybe stopped at the very attractive bar, we continue along the track. This can be on foot or in the car, but it is a short, good route and walking is the best way to experience the joy of the National Park. The track ends in the small town of Competa, but we usually drive on to the pretty village of Canillas de Albaida for a late lunch and then back to explore Competa in the afternoon. Then home to our guests holiday accommodation in Nerja.
